THE YUANXUAN FAOIST THOUGHTS
The Yuanxuan Taoist Temple, one of the eight scenic spots in Huadu District, is a national4A-Level tourist attraction. It was funded to build by the Hongkong Yuanxuan Academy and was completed in 1998. The temple aims to "develop Taoist academic research, bring convenience for believers to worship the immortals, and carry forward the virtues of filial piety andreminiscence of ancestors; and also bring along the old and the young, establish education and cultivate people of ability". The Yuanxuan Taoist Temple is a non-profit- making charity welfare institution.
The buildings of the Yuanxuan Taoist Temple have an antique style. The memorial archway in the
front entrance acts as a center gate, which is grand and broad. The archway leads to a spacious
square with two ornamental columns erected on the left and the right side separately. The main
building that directly faces the archway is the Sanqing Temple, which was built by the shape of the Temple of Heaven and flanked by a bell tower and a drum tower. The Sanqing Temple is used for
enshrining the supreme and the most esteemed immortal of Taoism. Near the right side of the square is the Hall of Supreme Harmony, and near the left side is the Hall of Central Harmony, the Yuanxuan Mountain Villa and the Taoist Aged Home, as well as the Hall of Goddess of Mercy, the Dou Lao Hall, the Tai Sui Hall, the Yuan Chen Hall, the Hall of Three Sages, the Holy Statue ofLaozi, the Tao Te Square, and so on.
